“Arizona, The Open Road”
Project Mission: Transport Arizonans to the 2012 Centennial birthday celebration day via the Centennial Copper Chopper exhibit, attracting and educating audiences along the way about Arizona’s history and character
Project Method: WestWordVision researched and identified the state’s most remarkable historic places, people, discoveries, and travel routes. We also studied similarities between Phoenician Lucius Day Copeland’s unveiling of the Steam Velocipede at the 1884 Arizona Territorial Fair and Paul Yaffe’s 2011 creation of the Arizona Centennial Copper Chopper motorcycle.
Agency Insight: WestWordVision wanted to portray the state’s independent, inventive, and free spirit and connect two Arizona inventors through almost 130 years time. As a personal and interactive solution, we created 21st century postcards from the road, using language and visuals that evoke today’s social media technology. Our two inventors “tweet” through time as they visit Arizona’s people and places across the state making connections through time and sharing experiences, often with equal doses of awe and humor. Viewers are inspired to hit the open road to experience the state firsthand.
